Phil Kelderman ATV Racing
Phil is an accomplished ATV Racer and Military Vet who just recently finished the 2017 Heartland Challenge 10-Hour ATV Race, racing the Ironman class - 10 hours solo! Congrats to Phil on a great 2017 Season so far! Check out Phil's info below:
1) Where are you from?
I'm from Centerville, Iowa
2) What got you into racing? And When?
I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 9 then my son got a quad and I ended up with one as well. Next thing you know we were racing and now I'm in my 7th season.
3) What is your favorite thing about racing?
May favorite thing is the race family, no matter if you're competing against each other on not, everyone helps whoever needs help.
4) Tell us about your current race machine:
Current machine is a 2015 Can-Am Renegade 800 XXC
5) What class do you currently race in?
I ride in the 50+ class in the IATVHSS
6) What is your favorite machine to trail ride on?
Favorite trail machine still has to be the Renegade. It will go anywhere in any conditions.
7) What is your favorite track or place to ride?
Favorite track, wow that's tough, always like Mt Pleasant because of its more technical features.
8) What do you do for training and to get ready for the races?
Training, I do a lot of light lifting and lots of reps. Lean muscle mass is way better than big muscles. Cardio, cardio, cardio. And get on the bicycle and work those legs!!!
9) What current racer do you most admire?
Most admired rider?? This sport has so many people that could be in this spot. I would say Chris Bithell, he was one of the most respectful riders towards the military and that means a ton to me.
10) What other types of Motorsports are you interested in?
During the off season Supercross helps get me by !! Lol
11) In your career so far, what is the accomplishment you are most proud of?
Most proud accomplishment has to be finishing the 10 hour Ironman class at the 2017 Heartland Challenge this last weekend.
12) What are some of your hobbies besides racing?
Other hobbies besides racing ??? Lol
13) Past racing season Highlights or history?
Past season highlights has to be my near career ending crash at round 5 IATVHSS 2016 where I fractured my pelvis in several places.
14) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Where do I see myself in 5 years ?? Not sure I can answer that one yet. At this stage of my racing career each year is a bonus especially after the wreck I had.
